When Ebola Closed the Door on Us, God Opened the Field to HIS People!

We were supposed to be in Bweyale the first week of June. But...

Becuase of the Ebola Outreach in the Congo/Unanda we had to postpone our trip until next year. I would be lying if i said I was "fine" with it. My heart has been heavey. I year of planing. I know our team was ready. The Ugandan churches were waiting. The plan was set.

But then Ebola broke out, and the door we thought we were walking through closed shut. At least, that is what it looked like from our side.

But God was not surprised. God was not scrambling. And God surely was NOT canceling His mission, or His desire to reach Bweyale with His love. Even though we could not go, God made a way.

We sent resources to Ronald, our key coordinator in Uganda, who was going to be leading the trip with me. Instead of us going, I asked Ronald to gather a team of 10 faithful men and women and lead them into Bweyale, the very city where we had planned to minister. I wanted us to keep our word to these churches. They had been waiting a year.

The team worked with four churches, starting last Saturday and finishing on Friday. AND it was beautiful. Almost every morning, I was on the phone with them as their day was ending. I got to greet the believers at the sites and tell them we were praying for them and excited to hear what God was doing.

I could hear the joy in their voices. They told me stories of people hearing the gospel, coming to Christ, receiving prayer, experiencing healing, and opening their homes and hearts to the message of Jesus. The Ugandan Team did what we had practiced to train the church sites –  the 4 Questions Training; They practiced drawing the bridge in the dirt. They helped local church members learn how to share their story and God’s story with confidence.

Then they went out together into the Harvest, into the communities, praying while walking roads, entering homes, listening to people, praying with families, and looking for those who were ready to receive the good news. And God led them to MANY, MANY People of Peace and Houses of Peace where the gospel could take root – 88 in all!

These young Ugandan leaders didn’t just participate. Led by Ronald, they stepped up. They loved–They trained– AND they carried the mission forward.

We thought Ebola stopped the trip. But maybe God used it to reveal something deeper in them, and in us too. The mission was never dependent on us being there. It was always about empowering local believers to become the light and love of Jesus in their own communities.

The mission was never dependent on us being there. It was always about empowering local believers...

AND IT HAPPENED!

Bweyale heard the gospel. Four local churches still went out. People met Jesus. And next year, when we go, we will not be starting from scratch. We will be joining a fire God has already lit.

Please keep praying for the 81 new beleivers and the 13 new House Churches - that God would take them on to maturity and that they too would become “Disciple-Making Disciples” of Jesus.

I Can’t wait for next year for us to GO and be the Hands and Feet of Jesus – Making Disciples for His Glory. If you want to be a part of this just drop me a note.
